Steve Jobs 1979 business card

Although I’m a Mac guy and I personally like the “cold metal” look of my G5, I’m not keen on Steve Wozniaks fancy laser-cut stainless steel number. It’s not very practical, affordable, or even particularly attractive! I prefer Steve Jobs simple business card design from the 70’s. Despite its “dated” font (Motter Tektura – the old Apple font) it has a simple elegance.

ABOMINABLE FONT CHOICE! – My list of dreadful Typography!

Being a design and marketing professional for a fair few years now, I feel reasonably justified in presenting you with my personal list of truly dreadful fonts – such as Comic Sans!

Personally, I find these fonts utterly detestable and I cringe every time I see them being used. If you regularly use these fonts, or are using these fonts, then my advice is to STOP using them! I am not in the minority in my condemnation of these typographical eyesores!

Selecting Fonts

Look beyond your computer’s installed fonts. Limiting your selection to fonts that are installed on 90% of all computers runs the risk of presenting a message that is cliche and unimaginative. I’ve seen headlines in Papyrus for everything from Christian rock bands to homemade candles. Can one font really be right for so many disparate products? Looking beyond your computer’s installed fonts will free you to find THE ONE font that really conveys the message of your brand.
